Remember last month when I showed you Marcy’s orange ruler measuring almost 10 inches of snow?
This morning I had to get out the yardstick.
At 8:00am there were nearly 21 inches in my backyard. I left the ruler out there and it now reads 21.75 inches.
And it’s still snowing heavily.
I’ll try to take more pictures today if I can get outdoors, but it’ll be a challenge because my boots aren’t that high! Meanwhile you can click on the yardstick to see what our neighborhood looked like from the street at 8:00am.
(Sorry for the poor image quality; these are from my cell phone.)

Good pic! (Just rain here and lots of it) So where do all the birds go with that much snow covering their food?
The birds are mobbing my hanging feeders. All of them are off the ground and accessible even in heavy snow. Sometimes the starlings dump seed on the snow which is firm enough that they can walk on it to get the seed. …Haven’t seen any robins, though. This weather is really hard on them.
Also 21″ over near Frick Park. City did a wonderful job plowing my car in 🙁
Didn’t lose any power here but there are several tree limbs about to fall.
Nice to see people skiing down the middle of the street 🙂
Oh yes, we got a few feet out here in Armstrong Co. — Great Blue Heron flew up and down the river out front and there’s at least 1 Wild Turkey up in middle of a tree up in the woods…the starlings really help “spread the wealth” don’t they? I had to shovel path to my shepherd’s hook and my son put some out in front by the trees. It is beautiful but we have power and there are those who don’t!! My oldest son lives in White Oak and they’ve been without power since 10 last night!! I also heard that all those people stranded on the PATurnpike may finally be getting help? What a blizzard we had. The son is out now–woohoo!!
It’s up to my knees here!
24 inches here and still trying to plow and shovel out…nice to see the sunshine, but it made the snow even heavier….electric is still on…and the satellite was out because of being snow covered, but I think it melted this afternoon…at least it’s working now.
Had a flocks of Robins yesterday flying around before the snow got really bad—>headed down to the woods…birds were everywhere and even looking for the feeder on the porch which was totally covered up with snow..had to dig it out…
Snow reminds me when I was little and really had winter…back then, I enjoyed it much more than now….no snowplows this way…just neighbors helping each other…church is cancelled and maybe we will be in for a few days if we don’t get plowed out…as long as the electricity stays on….will enjoy the birds and hibernation….Stay safe out there…
It’s over 2″ here in Sq. Hill, and we haven’t seen a snowplow even on Beeler St.
The poor dog leapt off the porch stoop this afternoon to do her dogly duties, and was BURIED! She “swam” back quickly and hasn’t wanted to go outside since. I don’t blame her. We’re cocooning.
