Tomorrow morning April 19, starting at 5:00am Eastern Daylight Time, the peregrine webcams at Gulf Tower and the Cathedral of Learning will be down for scheduled maintenance. While they are down, WildEarth will add a video archiving feature that allows us to bookmark video segments to find and play later. It will be similar to the “hotspots” feature we used last year.
Wildearth says the maintenance should take about an hour. While the streaming is down you’ll still be able to watch the nests via the snapshots.
UPDATE on Tuesday morning: Things are taking longer than planned.
Wait…I’m supposed to be up and watching Dorothy sleep at 5AM! I’ve been doing this all wrong – I’m such a slacker. I don’t usually check in on her until 7 and sometimes not until 9. Better reset my alarm and prepare the caffeine IV drip. 🙂
In all seriousness, thanks for the heads up!
What happened to the Gulf Tower snapshot cam? It’s been pulled way back, like they usually have it when the chicks are grown and starting to move around the nest. It’s going to make it hard to watch the eggs hatch and the newborns…
The snapshot cam at COL seems out of sync. Was watching Dorothy last night and she was facing outwards from the rear wall. The snapshot cam had her facing inwards and did not change in the 15 minutes I was there.

Gulf Tower snapshot cam: I had to reboot the Gulfcam because it was in a software lock that would have prevented it from reconnecting to WildEarth when they are finished with their scheduled downtime. Reboot caused it to zoom out. I have re-zoomed it in.
Those of us transplanted Pitt/Pittsburgh folks just want to thank you for allowing us to share a bit of “home”. (I got to hear part of the Pgh. St. Patrick’s Day parade while watching the peregrines at the Gulf Tower – pretty cool.) Your up-to-date comments are very helpful.
We have some falcons out here in California to add to your list of other nest cams to watch while awaiting your local arrivals. The young here have hatched, and it is great fun to watch them. There is a nest on San Jose City Hall (4 nestlings), and another on the PG&E building in San Francisco (3 more). You can access both nest cameras through the Santa Cruz Predatory Bird Research Group — I simply type in Santa Cruz with peregrines and it brings up the list of cams.
Thanks again for all that you do to keep us informed about the peregrines and the other wildlife in the Pittsburgh area as well.
Hi, Kate–I haven’t been able to view the webcams since the maintenance was done. The advertisement runs and then I get a message saying, “Net connection rejected”. Are the webcams still down? If not, can you give me some tips? Thanks for everything you do…Kathy
Kathy, I have not been able to view the cams either. Seems to be the same issue you have. The advertisement runs and then I get the same message you do.
Ditto on the message from the webcams!!!
I have notified WildEarth. It’s a problem on their end. The cams don’t work – even on their website.
Thanks Kate.
I get a new message today. After the advertisement runs, it says “Netstream.play.UnpublishNotify”
I am also getting that message. Hopefully they will get the problems resolved soon.
Me too!!!
Same here Michelle. “NetStream.play.UnpublishNotify”. I wish I could see the videos, especially when the eggs are about to hatch. Does anyone know what’s going on?
Sigh. Yes they are down. I have been nagging tech support at WildEarth.tv — the place where the streams originate.
It’s fixed – Thanks Kate!
Glad to have it back too. Thanks Kate!
