It would be wonderful if the male is from Pitt! Hope Steve can get a good photo of his bands 🙂
The story made the front cover…whoo-hoo!!
The big photo they used was of the female “Hope” I got last year as she zipped past me. You can find that photo on my site here – http://home.comcast.net/~sgosser/PeregrineFalconFly.jpg
Yep, Mary Ann did a really nice job on the article!
Had a brief look at the 2 juvies this morning before heading into town for a funeral. When I left at 7:40, “Quiet One” was on the downriver navlite beam and “Screamer” had been moving around but was on the railing near the upriver foot on the mid-river pylon.
Hello
I was reading about the Peregrines Falcons in the Valley Daily News . Well if the pictures I have are truly a Peregrine Falcon they might have been nesting in Tarentum,PA longer than 3 years. I have seven pictures that I took through the window of my back door when I lived two blocks from the Tarentum Bridge.
The pictures that I took all are from June of 2007
Gee, I was just up there this morning around 10:00. Peregrines heard but not seen 🙁 Stayed for about an hour and then headed to the Aviary for lunch 🙂
Jean, thanks for sending your photos. The bird is a Coopers hawk. It’s about the same size as a peregrine and it closely resembles one because it has a similar lifestyle. Coopers hawks and peregrines both eat birds and they both catch them in the air.
Earlier this year when I was looking for the peregrines at the Tarentum Bridge I didn’t find them but I saw a Coopers Hawk hunting for pigeons there. The pigeons are attracting some mighty handsome birds of prey to Tarentum.
We always have Coopers Hawks around, especially juvies in winter!
Saw one drop a pigeon on somebody’s car one winter and then come back the next morning and made a mess all over the car. When I finally caught up with the car’s owners and told them, they were amazed, because they didn’t know why their car was covered with pigeon feathers.
My mom brought me out a copy of the article to Albuquerque, nice work everyone!
