Peregrine Eggs Hatching On Easter

This morning I woke to a happy surprise. In the pre-dawn light there was an eggshell at the Gulf Tower peregrines’ nest. The eggs have begun to hatch.

Below, Dori settles herself over the fluffy chick.  New little bird!

Click here to watch the action on the Gulf Tower falconcam.  (The nest will be hard to see for about an hour after sunrise because the sun reflects off the dirty camera cover.  Don’t despair. The view clears.)

Happy Easter!

Update:  More photos as I get them.

Here she’s in color at 6:33am before the sun gets in the way.

  1. WOW! And I actually thought I was the 1st to see! (Yeah; at NOON!)

In the meantime, what’s up with Dorothy? She doesn’t seem to leave the box. At least, she’s there every time I chance to look. But she doesn’t seem interested in incubating. Does she think she still has more eggs to come? Not likely, from what you’ve written.

    Thanks
    Anne

    1. Anne, Dorothy isn’t incubating and won’t be laying another egg but this is the time of the year that she spends at the nest… so there she is.

  2. Does anyone know where E2 spends his days? I remember someone speculating that a roving female might decide to move in on this nest and this male, but so far that hasn’t happened. Too late in the breeding season, maybe??

    1. Suzanne, E2 spends his days at the Cathedral of Learning or very close by. No roving female has been seen, at least as of last Friday.
