Some kind of tree bark…?
looks like oak tree bark from the north side of the tree.
Tree bark was my guess too, even before reading these comments.

Very interesting. I was going to guess red pine bark because sometimes that looks lumpy. But not quite that lumpy. Tree identification is one of my worst botanical skills.
