I read the Throw Back entry and it reminded me of a few years ago when there was apparently an acorn dearth in late summer/early fall. I couldn’t figure out who was taking a few bites out of my tomatoes and then either leaving the nibbled fruit on the plants or dropping them on the sidewalks around our house. Then a neighbor who spent a lot of time sitting on his porch surveying the neighborhood told me about the squirrel (or maybe squirrels) who were climbing up the tomato plants to feed. That also explained the broken sunflower plants growing right next to the tomatoes to get at the sunflower seeds. Very annoying although better than the year before when a two-legged forager made off with my prized Brandywines.
