Just a reminder that I’m leading a bird and nature walk on Sunday July 26, 8:30am in Schenley Park.
Meet at Bartlett Shelter on Bartlett Street near Panther Hollow Road.
Dress for the weather. Bring binoculars and field guides if you have them.
Click here for more information and updates if the walk is canceled for bad weather.
We’re sure to see American goldfinches among the thistles.
See you soon.

Aww, man. Kate, you’ll laugh; my husband and I failed twice this morning. We meant to go on the nature walk, set an alarm and got up and everything. But I forgot the different location, so we hoofed it over to the Schenley visitor center. Then I remembered that maybe the walk was departing from the Bartlett shelter. But I also misremembered which shelter was which, so we hustled over to the Overlook shelter across from the disc golf course. By the time we circled back around to Bartlett, it was 9:00 and you were long gone. The funniest part is that we passed Bartlett well before 8:30 on the first leg of our journey. Nevertheless, we did see some excellent birds on our own – a red-eyed vireo, two different red-bellied woodpeckers, a white-breasted nuthatch, a pair of northern flickers, and a pileated woodpecker were among our standouts. I hope you saw some good ones, too!
Maybe we’ll go to the right location next month. ^_^
Sara, I actually thought of you two this morning – not realizing you were on your own rapid half hour tour of the Park. We saw an Acadian flycatcher up close, possibly an immature. It wasn’t singing but Acadians nest in the park & are the only Empidonax flycatchers I’ve seen & heard there for at least two months. Hope to see you Aug 23 at the regular place (Visitors Center).
