Throw Back Thursday:

Humans aren’t the only ones who visit Florida’s beaches in winter. Large flocks of gulls and shorebirds loaf on the sand and sometimes a peregrine falcon finds this irresistible.

In 2012 an unbanded adult peregrine ate a gull within 20 feet of passersby at Daytona Beach Shores. Click here to read the story and see the slideshow On The Beach.

  1. I happened to click on both the cams yesterday very briefly. There was a visitor to the Gulf Tower nest box. Any idea who it was or if they have been visiting regularly?

  2. Thanks Kate. I glanced back through your blog archives and didn’t see any mention of the Gulf Tower. I must have just missed it. I hope they don’t get scared away this year too!

  3. I have a picture of a peregrine falcon with a sea gull on a container ship in the Panama canal. Boy, was I surprised when I enlarged the picture and saw that the “bird of prey” was a falcon.
