Blue jays are making interesting sounds and gestures lately but what do they mean?
In the spring I often hear blue jays say “tweedle” and, on rare occasions, I see one bounce and gurgle.
Tweedle? Gurgle? Lesley the Bird Nerd explains it all in this video.
p.s. Only females make the “Rattle” call.

Very cool. We have heard all of these but didn’t know they were Jay’s. We watched a Jay eat a bee yesterday. They are also hiding and burying peanuts in various locations. Thank you for your video. Very informative.
Thank you SO much! I’ve trying to figure out what animal or bird makes this long and sad sound in our forest here around our house. I’ve never been able to actually see anything doing it, but today saw two blue jays flying very close to a door I’d walked out of, and I heard the mystery sound, so I had to verify it. Your video in the first minute did that. It’s been driving me kinda birdy for years! Thank you so very much!
