Seven years ago at WQED, I got a call from the Accounting Office that there was a bird in Payroll. He was full of tricks and a challenge to rescue.

Yesterday, a hummingbird (we think a female, dark above and completely white below) flew in through our open garage door. We have a 15 ft ceiling and the door is 8 ft tall. The bird kept up toward the ceiling and wouldn’t drop down low enough to go back out through the door. She stopped and perched on the door tracks every now and then. We decided that we couldn’t do anything to encourage her to go out so we left the garage. The last I saw, she dropped down the wall and perched on the tire of one of our bicycles hanging on the wall, so I’m hoping that she could see the door opening from there and left. We didn’t see her when we came back into the garage.
