Yesterday afternoon I received a quick email from Debbie Kalbfleisch who works in Downtown Pittsburgh. She wrote: “Just now, at 3:58 p.m., Dori & Louie mated on top of Four Gateway Center . . . how’s that for up-to-the-minute reporting! Babies coming soon!”
And the National Aviary Falconcams received some publicity this week. Thanks to Donna Memon for sending these links:
- WTAE (photo is of a juvenile peregrine)
- Pittsburgh Tribune Review (correction: Dorothy is only 12 years old.)

The Pittsburgh peregrines just don’t have any privacy! 🙂
I love your blog. I have been reading your articles for about a year now. Thank you for all the wonderful articles and information. I have been seeing a bird in and around my home and I am trying to identify it. I live in Monaca PA and I know there are Peregrine that nested under the Monaca BridgeI I would like to attach a picture but I am not sure how to do so. It is from my kitchen window through the screen. But there might be some characteristics you could see to help identify if it is a Peregrine or not. Please if you are interested email me. I can send the picture to you. Thanks– GK
Oh MY! I’ve had the Pitt cam up while I worked across the room this morning. I can hear whenever anyone makes noise so that gets my attention. Well…there’s nothing to see except the shadow of the cams at the moment. But I heard some noises, and could see a tail in the air. Then the screeching calls of another pergrine and flapping wing shadows. Then after that, let’s just say, there was plenty of noise, and flapping, and I only saw one shadow…
my my my.
and now someone is really making a racket, a call I’ve never heard before, repeated short screeches for about 10 seconds. Someone’s proud of themselves, arent’ we E2! 🙂
LOL! That must be some of what they call “Familiarities on the Cliff.”
Great narrative Peter. I heard the same thing and was worried it was a distress call 🙂
I caught 2 screen captures:

Donna, those pictures about sum it up. I’m amazed you got two it all happened so quickly! And then E2 made such a racket…you’d think Dorothy would tell him to go eat crow. In any case, definitely not a distress call.
I also find it interesting that E2 hangs around the nest box calling to her and scraping and whatnot and Dorothy doesn’t ever visit. But she gives a couple of calls and he came flying in right away.
